Athens is a city that is easily accessible by plane from Europe and other major destinations around the world. Flights from major airport hubs come in daily and frequently. The Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” is located in Spata, 33 km southeast of Athens and serves all international and domestic flights. The congress venue is easily accessible from the airport and the city centre via motorway, express bus or metro.
Megaron Athens International Conference Centre (MAICC) is situated right in the heart of Athens and is easily accessible by metro, bus and trolley bus. It is also located walking distance from major hotels and many other smaller hotels. Commuting to and from the city centre and Athens International Airport or other locations is quite easy:
By Metro: There is direct access from the airport and the city centre to MAICC from the metro station Megaron Moussikis on metro line 3 (blue line). It runs every 10 minutes from the airport and the trip to the city centre takes approximately 35 minutes. The metro trains depart from Airport every 30’ (at 03’ and 33’). From the airport take the blue line - Direction to Aghia Marina. .
Tip: You can check the train schedule in the arrival hall when you pick up your luggage on large monitors just before you exit.
Tip2: Be aware of pick-pockets in the metro lines in the downtown area during rush hours (e.g. when going in/out of a full coach)
By Taxi: An average journey by taxi from the airport to the city centre should take approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic, costing around €35,00 (between 05:00-24:00, single tariff) or €50,00 (double tariff, between 00:00-05:00. You can opt for the above flat rates (€35 and €50) when travelling to the inner center ring. These rates cover all extras, such as all tolls, extra luggage, etc. It is advisable to verify with the driver about this rate when you enter the taxi. By Bus: The express bus line X95 (Syntagma - International Airport) serves Athens city centre. A ticket for the airport express line costs €5. The buses leave every 15’ from 05:30-22:30 and every 30’ the remaining hours. Travel time varies with traffic, but normally it should be around 45 minutes to 1 hour (after 10pm it is usually much faster). Bus schedules.
